In other news, UTD got sued! Following Texas legislature’s recent “Campus Protection Act,” which bans expressive activity on public Texas universities from the hours of 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., student organizations from both UT and UTD filed a lawsuit against both schools and the UT System Board of Regents. Among the plaintiffs are The Retrograde, Strings Attached, and FOCUS, and at time of writing the UT System must follow an injunction by a federal judge preventing the enforcement of the policy. Which is to say, the classic collegiate experiences of being loud and/or having opinions late at night are safe for now.

Speaking of free expression, another wave of No Kings protests hit the streets last month, with many people expressing apparently controversial takes like, “Tyranny sucks,” and, “Genocide is bad.” With organizers estimating a turnout of roughly seven million people, the protests prompted the president to post an AI-generated video of himself airdropping fecal matter on protestors from a plane titled “King Trump” on social media — which is a mature and entirely unconcerning course of action for a man in the single highest position of power within the U.S. federal government. Other recent sensible and not-at-all terrifying developments in the U.S. government include a Supreme Court case heralding the potential return of conversion therapy, the skyrocketing prices of goods due to tariffs, and Trump airstriking boats ferrying alleged drug traffickers without due process, stating, “They’re going to be, like, dead” — which is not all too dissimilar from another 100 or so Palestinians killed by Israel since the recent ceasefire and return of Israeli hostages by Hamas. 

On a lighter note, Taylor Swift took strong action against the intense zeal of her fans by releasing an album so bad nobody can figure out how to defend it. Was it dumbed down to help Travis Kelce understand it? Has Taylor Swift simply become too wealthy to have real problems to write about? Nobody knows! It’s kind of impressive, all things considered.
